Geographic Border Locations:
Hamath
Entrance of Hamath/Lebo-Hamath
Hamath
was the district directly north of the Biblical borders of the Promised Land.
It's capital city was also called Hamath and stood on the east bank of the
Orontes River in Syria between Damascus and Aleppo. Today this city is called
Hama. The name Hamath means "Fortress". The term "entrance of Hamath" is from the Hebrew,
"Lebo-Hamath", meaning "the way which leads to Hamath".
From the direction of The Promised Land, the way to Hamath was through the
Beka'a
Valley, which lies between the Lebanon mountains and the Anti-Lebanon
mountains. Lebo-Hamath stood near the border when
entering the district of Hamath from the Promised Land. It is now
identified with a town called Lebweh/Lebwe in the northern Beka'a Valley in
Lebanon.
