Why Dispossessed?
Gn 15:16
In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the
Amorite is not yet full.
Ex 23:33
They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you
serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.
Lv 18:3,24,25,27,28,30
3 You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived: and you
shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you; neither
shall you walk in their statutes.
24 Dont defile yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the
nations which I am casting out before you were defiled.
25 The land was defiled: therefore I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited
out her inhabitants.
27 (for all these abominations have the men of the land done, that were before
you, and the land became defiled);
28 that the land not vomit you out also, when you defile it, as it vomited out
the nation that was before you.
30 Therefore you shall keep my requirements, that you do not practice any of
these abominable customs, which were practiced before you, and that you do not
defile yourselves with them: I am Yahweh your God.
Lv 20:23
You shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I am casting out before
you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.
Dt 9:4,5
4 Dont speak in your heart, after that Yahweh your God has thrust them out
from before you, saying, For my righteousness Yahweh has brought me in to
possess this land; whereas for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh does
drive them out from before you.
5 Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in
to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your
God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word
which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Dt 12:2,3,31
2 You shall surely destroy all the places in which the nations that you shall
dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains, and on the hills, and
under every green tree:
3 and you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their
pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; and you shall cut down the
engraved images of their gods; and you shall destroy their name out of
that place.
31 You shall not do so to Yahweh your God: for every abomination to Yahweh,
which he hates, have they done to their gods; for even their sons and
their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.
Dt 18:12,14
12 For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh: and because of
these abominations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you.
14 For these nations, that you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice
sorcery, and to diviners; but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed
you so to do.
Dt 20:16-18
16 But of the cities of these peoples, that Yahweh your God gives you for an
inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes;
17 but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite, and the Amorite, the
Canaanite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; as Yahweh your God
has commanded you;
18 that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they
have done to their gods; so would you sin against Yahweh your God.
2Kg 17:11
and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the nations whom
Yahweh carried away before them; and they worked wicked things to provoke
Yahweh to anger;

Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his
children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh
cast out before the children of Israel.
Ezr 9:1,11
1 Now when these things were done, the princes drew near to me, saying, The people
of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the
peoples of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of
the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the
Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.
11 which you have commanded by your servants the prophets, saying, The
land, to which you go to possess it, is an unclean land through the uncleanness
of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations, which have filled it
from one end to another with their filthiness.
