The Dispossessed People:
The Hittites
The Hitittes were descentants of Heth, son of Canaan, son of Ham, son of Noah. The name Heth means "terror/dread". The Hitittes inhabited a large area north of Galilee, their chief cities being Carchemish on the Euphrates River and Kadesh in the Orontes Valley. They also lived in the mountains of Canaan along with the Amorites.
Gn 10:15-18
15 Canaan became the father of Sidon (his firstborn), Heth,
16 the Jebusite, the Amorite, the Girgashite,
17 the Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite,
18 the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the
Canaanites were spread abroad.
Gn 15:18-21
18 In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your seed I have
given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river
Euphrates:
19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,
20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

3 Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the children of Heth,

7 Abraham rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the
children of Heth.
10 Now Ephron was sitting in the middle of the children of Heth. Ephron the Hittite
answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all who went in
at the gate of his city, saying,
16 Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had
named in the audience of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of
silver, according to the current merchants’ standard.
18 to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth,
before all who went in at the gate of his city.
20 The field, and the cave that is in it, were deeded to Abraham for a
possession of a burying place by the children of Heth.

9 Isaac and Ishmael, his sons, buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field
of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre,
10 the field which Abraham purchased of the children of Heth. Abraham was
buried there with Sarah, his wife.

Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of
Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these,
of the daughters of the land, what good will my life do me?”

will cut them off.

of the land of the Canaanite; the Amorite was your father, and your mother was a
Hittite.
45 You are the daughter of your mother, who loathes her husband and her
children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and
their children: your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
