The Promised Land:
Condition of The Land
during The Exile/Diaspora
Lv 26:31-35,43
31 I will lay your cities waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation,
and I will not take delight in the sweet fragrance of your offerings.
32 I will bring the land into desolation; and your enemies that dwell
therein will be astonished at it.
33 I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw out the sword after
you: and your land will be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste.
34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and
you are in your enemies’ land. Even then the land will rest and enjoy
its sabbaths.
35 As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, even the rest
which it didn’t have in your sabbaths, when you lived on it.
43 The land also will be left by them, and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies
desolate without them: and they will accept the punishment of their
iniquity; because, even because they rejected my ordinances, and their soul
abhorred my statutes.
Dt 29:22-28
22 The generation to come, your children who shall rise up after you, and the
foreigner who shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the
plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it
sick;
23 and that the whole land of it is sulfur, and salt, and a
burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows
therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which
Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
24 even all the nations shall say, Why has Yahweh done thus to this land?
what means the heat of this great anger?
25 Then men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh, the God of
their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the
land of Egypt,
26 and went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t
know, and that he had not given to them:
27 therefore the anger of Yahweh was kindled against this land, to bring on
it all the curse that is written in this book;
28 and Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great
indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.
Is 7:16,18,19,23-25
16 For before the child knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the
land whose two kings you abhor shall be forsaken.
18 It will happen in that day that Yahweh will whistle for the fly that
is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is
in the land of Assyria.
19 They shall come, and shall all rest in the desolate valleys, in
the clefts of the rocks, on all thorn hedges, and on all pastures.
23 It will happen in that day that every place where there were a thousand vines
at a thousand silver shekels, shall be for briers and thorns.
24 People will go there with arrows and with bow, because all the land will
be briers and thorns.
25 All the hills that were cultivated with the hoe, you shall not come there for
fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen,
and for the treading of sheep.”
Jr 18:16
to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; everyone who
passes thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head.
Ezk 12:20
The cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall
be a desolation; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.
Ezk 15:8
I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass,
says the Lord Yahweh.
Ezk 33:28,29
28 I will make the land a desolation and an astonishment; and the pride
of her power shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate,
so that none shall pass through.
29 Then shall they know that I am Yahweh, when I have made the land a
desolation and an astonishment, because of all their abominations which they
have committed.
Ezk 36:3,4,34-36
3 therefore prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because, even because
they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that you
might be a possession to the residue of the nations, and you are taken up in the
lips of talkers, and the evil report of the people;
4 therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord Yahweh: Thus
says the Lord Yahweh to the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and
to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken,
which are become a prey and derision to the residue of the nations that
are all around;
34 The land that was desolate shall be tilled, whereas it was a
desolation in the sight of all who passed by.
35 They shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden
of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and
inhabited.
36 Then the nations that are left around you shall know that I, Yahweh, have
built the ruined places, and planted that which was desolate: I,
Yahweh, have spoken it, and I will do it.
Ezk 38:8
After many days you shall be visited: in the latter years you shall come into
the land that is brought back from the sword, that is gathered out of many
peoples, on the mountains of Israel, which have been a continual waste;
but it is brought forth out of the peoples, and they shall dwell securely, all
of them.
Jl 3:2
I will gather all nations,
and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat;
and I will execute judgment on them there for my people,
and for my heritage, Israel, whom they have scattered among
the nations.
They have divided my land,
Mc 3:12
Therefore Zion for your sake will be plowed like a field,
and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble,
and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.
Mc 7:13
Yet the land will be desolate because of those who dwell therein,
for the fruit of their doings.
Zc 7:14
“but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they
have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man
passed through nor returned: for they made the pleasant land desolate.”
